About

Hi Friends! Welcome to the farm. My name is Alyssa Yoder. I’m a first-generation farmer in Eastern Iowa.

My journey to becoming a farmer has taken some interesting turns along the way, and I like to say it all happened accidentally on purpose. I'm a serial entrepreneur, and I hold a Bachelors of Fine Art in Graphic Design. After graduating college, I quickly realized that I had a strong dislike for being stuck behind a computer screen for 8 hours a day. I dove head first into working in the land and water management business that I run alongside my family.

In 2018, I picked up a couple calves from a neighbor’s farm, and Canaan Farms was born. Today, I raise cattle and sheep, and provide consumers, both local and national, with high-quality, Iowa-raised meats and mercantile goods.

I believe that delicious meat comes from happy critters. I hand-raise all my livestock on my farm, with my primary focus being on creating a low-stress, high health environment. My cattle are fed a customized corn and grass-based diet, with no added hormones. My pigs are raised on pasture, and fed a customized grain ration.  My sheep are predominantly grass-fed, with supplemental grain.  I work closely with my nutritionist and veterinarian to ensure the health of my livestock, in order to ensure that my customers are getting the highest quality product possible.

All the beef produced here is dry-aged for 14 days to provide maximum tenderness and flavor.

Orders are shipped on Mondays and Tuesdays, and are packed with dry ice to ensure a well-chilled delivery.  Our GreenCell foam cooler liners are bio-degradable, and can be composted, dissolved under warm water in your sink, or utilized as a kindling for starting your charcoal grill.
