About

Hi Friends! Welcome to the farm. My name is Alyssa Yoder. I’m a first-generation farmer in Eastern Iowa.

My journey to becoming a farmer has taken some interesting turns along the way, and I like to say it all happened accidentally on purpose. I'm a serial entrepreneur, and I hold a Bachelors of Fine Art in Graphic Design. After graduating college, I quickly realized that I had a strong dislike for being stuck behind a computer screen for 8 hours a day. I dove head first into working in the land and water management business that I run alongside my family.

In 2018, I picked up a couple calves from a neighbor’s farm, and Canaan Farms was born. Today, I raise cattle and sheep, and  provide consumers, local and national, with high-quality, Iowa-raised meats and mercantile goods. I believe that delicious meat comes from happy critters. I hand-raise all my livestock on my farm. My cattle are fed a customized corn and grass-based diet, with no added hormones. My sheep are predominantly grass-fed, with supplemental grain.

On the rare occasion that I'm not on the farm or in the field, you can find me line dancing, catching a local rodeo, hopping a plane to Ireland, or traveling to visit friends.
